As part of the Sky Bet and The British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Every Minute Matters campaign, Wembley Stadium renamed one of the stands after ICB staff member and cardiac arrest survivor Andy Wall.
Andy has worked for the ICB’s vaccination team, and has done a huge amount of work to raise awareness of cardiac arrests through the BHF’s Every Minute Matters campaign.
The other three stands also featured one person’s name on it, two more cardiac arrest survivors and one life saver who performed CPR.
This is the first time Wembley has ever renamed its stands.
Andy’s name was present inside Wembley stadium at the top of a stand from Thursday 21 May to Monday 25 May for all the Sky Bet EFL play off finals, starting with the championship match. 🏟️
Andy said: “To be recognised in this way at a stadium as iconic as Wembley is something I’m enormously proud of and never expected. Football has always been a huge part of my life, so to now be part of a campaign using the game to save lives means a great deal to me and my family. Surviving my cardiac arrest showed me just how vital quick action and CPR really are. The people who helped me that day gave me the chance to keep making memories with my family. If sharing my story encourages supporters across the country to learn CPR, then that would be the greatest legacy of all.”
Around 40,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the UK every year and fewer than one in ten people survive. The importance of receiving instant CPR is crucial. Over 520,000 people have already completed Revivr since May 2024 which is truly life saving. Learn CPR in 15 minutes for free via the RevivR programme produced by BHF.
