The NHS in Norfolk and Suffolk is encouraging people to top up their protection against COVID-19 by arranging their spring vaccination as bookings open this week.
Clinicians at NHS Norfolk and Suffolk Integrated Care Board (ICB), who arrange local vaccinations as part of the national NHS programme, are urging those at increased risk from serious illness to book their vaccination now.
Eligible groups this spring are:
- Adults aged 75 years and over (including individuals who turn 75 years old by 30 June 2026)
- Residents in a care home for older adults
- Individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed
Health leaders say it’s even easier to book your vaccine this year, simply respond to your GP invite, use the NHS App, visit the NHS website, call 119 for free, or go along to a walk-in clinic at a local participating pharmacy.
Prof Frankie Swords, Executive Medical Director at NHS Norfolk and Suffolk ICB, said:
“COVID-19 isn’t just a winter illness and previous immunity can wane over time, so spring is a great time to get ahead of things, prioritise your health and top-up your protection.
“The virus continues to be particularly dangerous for older people and those with weakened immune systems, so we’re encouraging everyone eligible to come forward to get protected.
If you’re eligible, get it booked and ticked off your to-do list as soon as you can.”
This free vaccine has saved countless lives to-date, prevented thousands of people from needing to go to hospital and helped people to live with the virus without fear or restrictions.
UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) data from the spring 2025 COVID-19 vaccination programme showed that those who received the vaccine were around 50% less likely to be admitted to hospital with the virus.
If you are at increased risk, having your vaccine also helps to:
- Reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms
- Recover more quickly if you catch COVID-19
- Protect against different types of COVID-19 virus.
Appointments are live now and the spring programme runs through to 29 June 2026. Respond to your GP invite, use the NHS App, visit the NHS website, call 119 for free, or go along to a walk-in clinic at a local participating pharmacy.
